Mariposa Farmhouse

Mariposa Farmhouse

Overview – Staying with us is a relaxing journey back in time — only 14 minutes north of downtown Mariposa. Experience small-town hospitality in a community that keeps its history alive. The historic part of our house was built in 1894 and it is part of California Historical Landmark 331. Also, enjoy seasonal fruits, berries and veggies from our organic garden and our full complimentary breakfast.

Living Room

Living Room

The Space – In 2013, the B&B was completely refinished. Our goal was to preserve the antique beauty of our Victorian house while providing modern comforts as well. Downstairs we restored the original wood floors and installed a wood stove in the living room.   Upstairs we installed new soft carpets and chandlers.  We also installed a quiet state-of-the-art heat pump system in all the guest rooms. This system provides heat in the winter and cooling in summer. Each of the three sleeping areas have independent climate control.  In the colder months we also use the wood-burning stove for additional heat.

Sky View Sitting Room

Sky View Sitting Room

The upstairs “Sky View Suite” has two rooms and a private bath. The bedroom has a double bed and the sitting room has a double fold-out bed. This suite sleeps up to 4 persons. Additional futons for small children are also available.

Garden View Room

The downstairs “Garden View Room” has a queen size bed, tall ceilings and a large bath. The bath has both a long claw foot tub and separate shower.  If you rent both our Sky View and Garden View rooms together, you can also use the fold-out bed in the living room for an additional person (total occupancy 7). The B&B has a new addition, which was built in the 1990s where your hosts live.

Modern Conveniences – We offer free high speed wireless internet in all rooms and wired internet in the living room. The internet is a very fast 4 MBPS symmetric. Guests can use a refrigerator and microwave oven, which are located in the B&B living room. Guests can also cook meals in our backyard using a gas grill and a two burner stove. There is space for eating in the covered gazebo.

Our Farm

Our Farm

Land – We are most proud of our natural farm and orchard. We have seasonal vegetables, blueberries, aronia beries, goji berries, apples, figs, and recently planted cherries and mulberries. We grow all our food without chemical sprays or fertilizer. Our goal is to be CCOF certified someday. Our guests are welcome to pick and eat whatever is ready for harvest when they are here. We ask no pets inside the house but have a 2 acre fenced pasture, which houses our sheep. The nearby Hunter’s Valley access road offers trails for exploring by foot or bike.

In Mariposa, just 14 minutes south by car, there are a variety of stores, restaurants and bars, including one of the best health food stores in the foothills. During summer you may find live music or open-mics in town. Just west of Mariposa on Route 140 there is a rock shop where you can find some local minerals and find out about local rock and mineral hunting.

Because the pace in Mariposa is slower than large cities, shop owners and people you meet on the street are willing to take the time to have a conversation with you. This is one of my favorite things about this area.

Guest Access – Guests are welcome to explore our farm, which offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Guests may pick and sample what ever is in season.   We treat our guests as family. You are welcome to hang out with us as much as you like as we go about the business of running our farm and B&B. Nancy prefers to be working on the farm, she is also found in the kitchen processing our various harvests, such as curing olives, pickling cucumbers, or just cooking meals. Bill is often working on our digital irrigation systems or maintaining our web presence, and he is happy answer guest’s questions or even play some music on his guitar or djembe. Since we have two separate houses that are joined together by a breezeway, guests can have as much privacy or interaction with us as they wish.

P1040617Neighborhood – Our neighborhood is unique. We have no “official” businesses. However, walking around you can meet the local residents and learn first hand about the area. People often have more time to simply hangout around here. Our next-door neighbor sometimes opens his house (Trabucco Store) as an antique store on weekends.

Getting around – We have excellent bus service in Mariposa. You can go east to Yosemite or west to the Merced Amtrak Station and Merced Airport. There is no public transportation in our neighborhood. If you are a pilot flying in to the Mariposa Airport, we offer complementary pick-up and drop off service, as it is only 10 minutes away.
